Toothed topshell – this mollusc lives fairly high up on the seashore where it feeds on the algal film left on rocks. The shell has maroon zigzag stripes with a silvery, mother-of-pearl layer underneath. It is identified from other species of topshell by the small bump or ‘tooth’ just inside the aperture of the shell. It is at the northern edge of its range in the southern half of the UK.
